Cancer immunotherapy improves the way our immune system fights cancer

The immune response to a tumor antigen is a variant of the immune reaction to any antigen. Macrophages and natural killer cells may be important as effectors of this reaction, but an adequate cytotoxic reaction needs activation of both CD4+ helper cells and CD8+ T-cells plus production of cytokines and chemokines.
